Why is the AUP Required?

The AUP is a written agreement, signed by students and parents outlining terms and conditions for PENNCREST Network and Internet use. The AUP sets acceptable use rules and access privileged and covers penalties for violations of the policy, including security violations and vandalism. The AUP is kept on file as a legal, binding document.

Can my student have access to the computer without email?

Yes, PENNCREST will provide Internet access to all students. An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) Form signed by both the student and the parents must be submitted annually. On the AUP the parent can state they do not want email access. The parent can withdraw their approval at any time.

Does the district filter Internet content?

As per requirements pertaining to the Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the district has filtering in place for the Internet

Why are there limitations on what can be done on school computers?

The computers are placed in the schools to support the school curriculum and are tools to use to complete assignments. Since the computers are used by many different people, there must be restrictions that assure that the machines will be consistent for each person who uses them.

Does the district offer any technology training for the public?

Computer basics and application training sessions are offered by the district through the Adult/Continuing Education offerings. There are offerings in the fall and spring. Notices of these are advertised in the newspaper and sometimes through take-home announcements.
