Delay/Cancellation of School due to Inclement Weather or Other Emergencies

Dear Parent/Guardian,
In a short while, inclement winter weather will be upon us. This is a reminder that PENNCREST, along with Crawford Central and Conneaut School Districts, will utilize two-hour delay and cancellation procedures in cases of inclement weather. The two-hour delay enables us to have more time to assess weather conditions. Parents will need to make arrangements for their children in the event that delays and cancellations occur.
Parents and students should develop the habit of listening to local radio stations and Erie television stations on a regular basis for possible announcements regarding the delay or cancellation of school. Except in the case of an unforeseen emergency that may apply to only one district or school, the determination to delay or cancel school will be a unified decision made by the Superintendents.
We have distributed these procedures to parents/guardians in advance of inclement weather so that you can make preparations accordingly. Pleas remember that whether or not the district decides to delay or cancel school due to inclement weather, it is ultimately your decision as a parent to determine whether or not your children are safe. If your immediate situation appears to be very dangerous, it is up to you to exercise good judgment and determine whether or not to send your child to school. If you do keep your child at home however, please send a note to school the following day explaining the problem. The administration will evaluate your explanation, and in most cases, consider your child to be legally absent from school.
Lastly, be advised that, in accordance with energy saving procedures, we will maintain building temperatures at 68 degrees. Please dress your children accordingly .
