Local Earned Income Tax

The Earned Income Tax collected is distributed between the school district and the municipality in which the taxpayer resides or lives. The school district is entitled by law to receive ½ of 1% and the remaining balance of tax is submitted to the municipality. Townville Borough have their own Earned Income Tax Collector for their share of the 1% tax. The tax office only collects the schools share of the tax for those municipalities. Cambridge Springs Borough’s tax rate is higher than the others because they have adopted Home Rule Charter under the Home Rule Charter and Optional Plans Law and are not limited to the statutory limits for Earned Income Tax. This means all other municipalities are limited to ½ of 1% tax but Cambridge Springs Borough can increase their rate. Their current tax rate is 1.9% (.5% for the school district and 1.4% for the borough).

All residents of the above municipalities that have earned income and/or net profits must file a PENNCREST School District Earnings Tax Return by April 15 the year prior the tax year. A copy of the tax returns can be printed from this web site.
